Strip the Mormon church of its status as a religious organization.
Through Prop 8, the Mormon Church has shown its true colors as a political group with specific social ends. Political speech is fair and legal here; such speech under the guise of religion is not. The playing field must be leveled.
Californians will vote on future propositions to correct this flawed amendment next year, and every year, until we achieve our rights under the state constitution. We must be assured that our advocacy organizations are on an equal legal and financial playing field as those of our opponents.
SIGN AND PASS THIS. it's time for all Gays, Lesbians and their friends to bring up the fight and get active!

Re: Strip tax exemption from Mormons!
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 8:56 PMHow very true RigDad. In this wonderful country there is suppose to be the separation between church and state. When a church starts inserting itself into the political landscape and starts funding political propositions, they are clearly in violation of that. Their tax exempt status should be revoked.

Fri, November 7, 2008 - 8:01 AMHey Will!
First:
Hi Will, BIG hugs to you! How the f' are you honey?
Ready for the rains?
Second: I wish we could take a whack at the Catholics too, but it was the Knights of Columbus doing the money on the Prop 8 bit. Yes, they are a proxy of the pope but one set up for the purpose of things just like this so it's a bit more up front. The Mormons did it from the pulpit and the ward meetings, coaching everyone on what to do with the money.
Hugs,
Rig

Re: Strip tax exemption from Mormons!
Fri, November 7, 2008 - 11:30 AMThere is a problem with this idea. The LDS church has no Tax exemption. They are the only Christian type church in the country that pays taxes. They never applied for tax exemption. -

Re: Strip tax exemption from Mormons!
Thu, November 13, 2008 - 7:49 PMIf the Mormons cannot be stripped of the tax exempt status, may be someone can put together a list of businesses owned by the Mormon church and begin a boycott. -

Re: Strip tax exemption from Mormons!
Thu, November 13, 2008 - 9:54 PMThat's exactly what people are doing. A quick goggle search will yield the results in moments. There are also some Facebook groups that are organizing various actions. -

Re: Strip tax exemption from Mormons!
Thu, November 13, 2008 - 10:21 PMI found it. Check out this website www.boycottmormonbusiness.com It has a fairly extensive list of Mormon Church owned businesses. Some of those business I have ordered from before. I will definitely support the boycott, What may even help is that I will write/ e-mail those companies that I have ordered from before and tell them to have my name removed from their customer list because I am boycotting their company for their support of prop 8. -

Boycotting Mormon Church Owned Business
Sat, November 15, 2008 - 5:56 PMBoycotting business owned by the Mormon church would be quite effective right now. Due to the poor economic climate, businesses really need every penny they can make. Boycotting businesses right now will definitely send a very strong message to those that took our rights away. -

Re: Boycotting Mormon Church Owned Business
Sat, November 15, 2008 - 10:00 PMI agree full on your idea Azazeal! I would be one good way get them back for taking our rights as gay people and teach them that there has to be acceptance in the world, not just one ideal from their God.
